Ok I'm sure this is an obvious question, but hopefully you guy's won't be to hard on me, my son is just starting to race go-karts this year. He will have to run the purple restrictor. The kart/motor we bought was run unrestricted, I got some jets with it, but there are no numbers on them, but you can see a difference in dia. with the restrictor do I need to jet down, or up? My plug say's down, but just asking some opinions. Thank you for your time.

Not really sure on that one. As long as you are not racing endurance I would go up for more POWER!!!

juniors usually go up. it just depends on the temp and humidity. i would take all the jets you have without numbers and throw them away. buy news at your local kart shop so that you know exactly what you have and what your running. getting your engine temp right could mean the difference between one or two numbers.

this is the true answer to your question...i raced purple when i first started...with a smaller restrictor plate less air gets sucked in the carb...you have to ballance the fuel to the air your getting in the carburator. so take the jets with no numbers ,because i know its hard to just go buy them sometimes. during practice, put in a random jet(NOT TO BIG). crank the engine and after about 5 or 10 seconds hit the gas(whith kart on a stand) if the motor boggs, your jet is to big(too rich) keep trying different pills until you find the one that gives you no bogg after 5 10 secs of running then hitting throttle. if the engine misses and sputters when you crank it and let it run too small of a jet(too lean). not enough fuel is getting through. your welcome..
